Please note: The Sandcastle property is a triplex consisting of 3 separate units. The penthouse is SC 1 (studio with kitchenette), the middle house is SC 3 (3 bedroom/2 bathroom) and the house is SC 2 ((2 bedroom/2 bathroom). Each unit has exclusive patios that are NOT shared.

Spend the evening barbecuing on your rooftop deck or grab a bike and start riding the 16-mile boardwalk that can take you all around the bay, past Seaworld, Belmont Park (the roller coaster!) and along the coast and the famous Mission Beach boardwalk.
Activities outside your door range from swimming, kayaking, boating, to wind surfing, sailing, jet skiing and canoeing. Witness kids building sandcastles (or build your own!) or just watch all the friendly walkers, joggers and cyclists along the beach from your front row seats overlooking the boardwalk.
Within easy walking distance and visible from the deck is the MISSION BAY AQUATIC CENTER, one of the largest instructional waterfront facilities in the world! Cancellation Policy:
If Guest’s cancellation request is received 60 days or more prior to check-in date, Guest will receive a full refund,
minus $100 cancellation fee.
• If Guest’s cancellation request is received 30 days to 59 days prior to check-in date, Guest will receive a 50% refund of rental/booking and be refunded for cleaning fees, tax, or damage coverage paid as of cancellation date.
• If a Guest's cancellation request is received less than 30 days prior to check-in date, Guest is not entitled to refund of rental/booking. Guest will however, be refunded for cleaning fees, tax, and damage coverage paid as of cancellation date.
• Guest must submit a cancellation request to MMB by e-mail or letter.
• Consider purchasing Travel Insurance if you're concerned about cancelling your reservation.
CLEANLINESS & SAFETY:

Guest(s) who cancel at least 60 days prior check-in date will get back 100% of the amount they've paid minus $100 processing fee.
If cancelled between 31 and 60 days prior to check-in date, guests get back a 50% of the total nightly rate, cleaning, tax and damage deposit.
If cancelled less than 30 days prior to check-in date, guest(s) are not entitled to any refund of rental amount paid. Transient Occupancy Tax, Cleaning Fee and Refundable Damage Deposit will be refunded if guests have already paid.
GOOD NEIGHBOR/NO PARTY/OCCUPANCY LIMIT POLICIES: Magical Mission Beach has a NO TOLERANCE policy regarding parties, excessive noise and/or disturbing the neighbors. Bachelor/Bachelorette parties are not allowed under any circumstances. Parties that disturb the neighbors are prohibited and can lead to immediate eviction and a $250 Party Penalty! The pictures should have some a better job explaining that it’s a shared house, and you’re basically renting a room with an exterior door. I’ve been to mission beach every summer for the last 15 years and was quite disappointed with how this rental was designed.
It’s 3 stories and was remodeled to have an outdoor staircase be poorly enclosed to offer multiple entrances for guests. The rain was extremely loud and was leaking through the makeshift “roof” that was made out of fiberglass.
We also weren’t aware of the 30+ steps in order to get to and from our floor. This wasn’t anywhere in the description nor is there an alternative entrance.
On top of this, living with multiple other people below us was very noisy. We heard every conversation, anytime they used the stairwell, as well as their loud conversations and footsteps into the early hours of the morning. There was also some kind of dog facility nearby as we heard dogs barking and getting into fights quite often.
The space itself lacked a dresser which left us living out of our suitcases.
The cost was outrageous for what we experienced when though the view was nice.

Great location, amazing view. Hosts were responsive, let us know we could check in early, and made sure we found the building. Check in and check out were seamless. The place was a bit hard to find initially, but I blame that on us never having been to San Diego. Bed was comfortable, hot tub was a nice touch. We planned to go out for most meals, so the kitchen provided what it needed to for us. If you plan to cook, I recommend finding a place with a stovetop. Overall the place is small, but perfect for two people. Had no issues with noise from other folks in the triplex. There is a building that either shelters or provides daycare for dogs right next door - it got a bit noisy over there, but nothing over the top. Would stay here again 1 recommended stay for your first time in San Diego.

The view and location is 5 stars. We enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunsets from the hot tub on the outdoor rooftop. The location is just a block from pacific beach and many places were walkable. The host was very sweet for allowing up to check in early as our flight was earlier than check in time, we appreciated that. We did notice a bit of an ant problem so had to be mindful with any food or snacks. Another plus was the bathroom had a heater which was nice when getting out of the hot tub and for cold early mornings. I would stay here again but for a special occasion as it was very very pricy, but the view and location are nice. The bedroom area is quite small but comfortable for 2 adults. Also if you have big luggage, be mindful as the stairs are quite narrow and small to get up into the living area. We were able to hear a lot of what was going on directly underneath us so be mindful just because you’re on top floor you’ll still hear neighbors.

To Future Renters of this Airbnb, I really don't want to write a negative review because maybe it fits what you are looking for. The layout of this topfloor unit requires you to go up a narrow staircase of 30 stairs either way which after a while gets to you. The insulation between units could use some work as you can hear the other families in the unit fairly well which makes it hard to actually relax. The location is very busy but not the cleanest surrounding. The views from the bedroom of power poles and lines leaves a lot to be desired. I am sure the bay may be nice a lot of times but while visiting it was covered with seaweed and not very inviting. There were ants which would attack any food left out for any period of time. The layout of the unit makes it feel like you can't move around much without hitting your head on the slanted ceiling above the bed or wiggle around the furniture. we were there for 4 days in which it was hard to ever feel like we were unable to pack and feel comfortable. Maybe for some the location to Seaworld etc is a big attraction but I would never stay there for a relaxing time.

We loved every minute of our stay! Comfy bed! We spent our mornings working on our computers on the back deck overlooking the ocean with coffee. Sat in the hot tub each evening and sometimes in the day also! Our stay was peaceful and quiet and lovely.
My husband was obsessed with the shower.
We also had a parking spot for our car.
We did one date night dinner at Moe’s. Perfect steak and cocktails. Just a short walk.

Amazing location and a private hot tub - what more could you ask for?! My husband and I were first time visitors to San Diego and stayed here for a week. It was the perfect location - everything we wanted to do was around a 25 min drive and there were so many options within walking distance. We especially loved breakfast at the mission and better buzz coffee. In addition to beach chairs and towels the unit also has two bikes which we utilized to bike along the path of mission beach which was over 5 miles and a beautiful ride. Early in the week the hot tub jets weren’t working and within 20 minutes someone was over to reset the main breaker. In addition on our last night the people staying below us parked in the wrong spot and blocked our car in and Kimberly offered to pay for our Uber to and from our destination before the guest downstairs could move the car. Just an FYI the unit is on the top floor so you do need to climb stairs/haul luggage upstairs but that wasn’t a problem for us. 100% would stay here again the next time we come back to San Diego!

We splurged on this stay for our last 2 nights of our trip and the view and hot tub were amazing. We also liked some of the perks that it came with such as a tower fan and full kitchen stock up with whatever we needed dish and utensil wise. It was very clean and we spent as much time outside as we could. The first night it rained and had lightening which was fun to see. We didn’t even realize the guests under us were there they were incredibly quiet the first night. Unfortunately, the second and final night the guests below did not adhere to the rules whatsoever. Kim was quick to help us out over some parking issues however the other guests came in after 2am being extremely rude and loud to the point it woke my husband, 9 month daughter and I out of a dead sleep. Unfortunately, after several hours of not being able to get back to sleep we had decided that we would just head home. We are very disappointed that due to the other guests our stay and trip ended the way it did and felt that it was a waste of money. Upon reaching out to Kim, I felt as if I almost was made to be at fault for not communicating more after explaining that we were so upset after the consistent issues that arose the very second the other guests arrived.

This place is awesome! We loved it here. It is a good size space for two people. The hot tub on the deck is the perfect way to start and end each day. It’s in a great location. It’s close to everything and a short 15-ish minute drive to downtown to catch a Padres game or whatever else you want to do. It’s very peaceful here. It’s great that you have your own parking space as parking spaces seem to be a luxury. It has air conditioning which is a bonus if you are warm blooded like myself.
The bed is comfortable. The shower is great. We can’t wait to stay here again!

The owners were super kind and even appeared in person when our a/c unit had an issue. It was quickly fixed. The property management had a different vibe and was a bit less on it so far as communication and follow through. The place itself is wonderful! You do hear the lower unit on the stairs and walking about - normal noise, nothing offensive - so if you are very, very noise sensitive, it’s not the kind of penthouse where you feel removed and secluded. The close distance to food without reservations, the bay and the ocean were divine!! We especially loved Ms. B’s Coconut Club.

Wow! This is The PERFECT getaway for two . It has something for everyone regardless of how you define rest and relaxation. Looking for a place to just hole up? You’d be hard-pressed to do better. If you’re the kind of person that likes daily adventures and activities, there are more then you can shake a stick at within walking (or maybe a short drive) distance. You’re sitting on a peaceful bay , ideal for paddle boarding, snorkeling, bike riding and more. Right across the street is another beach (this one on the Pacific Ocean) where surfing and boogie boarding conditions are outstanding.
If you need some nightlife, there are so many choices that deciding will be your biggest challenge.

This penthouse apartment is PERFECT for a couple. We stayed for over a week on our honeymoon and enjoyed every bit of this slice of heaven. Steps to the bay AND beach, amazing restaurants, shops and places to rent water toys within walking distance. The deck and private hot tub with the most amazing view overlooking the bay is everything you'd want out of your dream vacation spot. Bathroom is large and very beautifully redone, closet was extremely spacious and very helpful with keeping organized, and the king sized bed was super comfortable! Parking is easy with a spot reserved for the penthouse and laundry (which is private to the building, not just private to the penthouse) was easy to use and really helpful to have access to. If we had to nitpick - even though we were on the top floor, the steps of the people staying in the other apartments were loud, however it was never excessive and did not affect our stay at all. If you're a couple looking for a romantic, chill, fun place to stay - BOOK IT!

We celebrated our 10th anniversary at the Magical Mission Beach home & couldn’t have been happier. The location is perfect, walking distance to everything you need, right on/above the boardwalk, the view of the bay & the city is amazing, & you can hear the pacific crashing just a couple of blocks behind you. The mission beach area is very active with plenty to do, yet peaceful & quiet at the same time. The accommodations themselves were outstanding. It is the prettiest & most unique home on the boardwalk. Entrance is private, safe, convenient. Perfect size for a couple. Everything is beautifully designed, comfortable, & spacious while cozy. The rooftop is amazing. It’s private & in the middle of the all the activity at the same time. It’s large with plenty of comfortable seating & table with umbrella. We had dinner on the roof every evening. The jacuzzi is clean & comfortable & it’s the most peaceful place I could imagine to look out over the city at night. Kim & Michael were very friendly & made sure we had a nice stay. Definitely would return!

This little studio with huge deck and hot tub was the perfect "nest" for me to visit my daughter and her family in San Diego. Being on the third floor makes it oh so private. I was only steps away from family, food, drink, biking, walking, you name it! If you want to visit the kids and also stay out of the fray, this is the spot! I'll be back!

We stayed in this unit with our two kids (ages 5 years and 6 months) and had a wonderful time! Lori and Don were very welcoming, responded to our last minute rental request promptly and were super accommodating (even allowed us to change the dates we were staying due to unforeseen circumstances).
The unit’s location was absolutely perfect. Right on the beach, on the bay side - our son played in the sand right in front of the house while we watched him (and everyone else walking by) right from the beach chairs on the patio. Bliss! The bay side was perfect for staying here with kids - quieter and less windy than the ocean side.
There was plenty of space for all of us, and it was great to have a kitchen, although we most often got takeout or ate at nearby places - within three minutes walking distance there were several great breakfast, lunch and dinner places. Trader Joes is just a 5 minute drive away and was perfect for stocking up on snacks and drinks.
We used the bicycles, kayaks, and sand toys that came with the unit, and the wifi had enough bandwidth for streaming Netflix movies.
All in all, we had an amazing time and would love to go back!
